How the 'Unconscious at Work' undermines the conscious task of the organisation/institution.
I heard this perhaps, who knows, apocryphal story some years ago but in workshops, I have often, none-the-less, quoted it as an illustration of the part that the unconscious plays in undermining the workplace.
A brand new Acute General Hospital was being planned and then built: It was state-of-the-art with all modern facilities, surgical suites, labs, staff facilities etc etc but.........
......as it was being commissioned someone noticed that there was........ NO MORTUARY!
Is this particular omission especially relevant or just another meaningless, bureaucratic 'cock--up'?
Well, we might ask, why of all the departments which might have been omitted.....why was it, in fact, - the MORTUARY that was not there?
